{"id":94,"date":"2016-01-08T12:28:15","date_gmt":"2016-01-08T12:28:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/robinmactaggart.co.uk\/?p=94"},"modified":"2025-10-09T11:37:37","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T11:37:37","slug":"3d-locomotives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/robinmactaggart.co.uk\/?p=94","title":{"rendered":"3D locomotives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>3D laser scanning and post scanning modelling work.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland redevelopment plan I\u00a0was invited to participate in a pilot study to digitally record a selection of the Society\u2019s collection. Ten subjects were selected; three steam engines, one diesel engine, four carriages, one freight car and one brake van.<\/p>\n<p>With \u00a0project partners \u2013 Dublin-based The Discovery Programme \u2013 we\u00a0performed an intensive programme of laser scanning and photography during January and February of 2015. Each vehicle was meticulously scanned with a Faro laser scanner to supply accurate 3D data and then photo-documented to record colour and texture information.
